Carlos Alberto Montaner – another one from the CIA termitary

It is sufficient to scroll through the internet versions of right conservative papers of Latin America for the recent two months to outline the circle of those personalities that constitute certain international propaganda team, which is commissioned to “expose and stigmatize” Hugo Chavez Frias - president of Venezuela.

The most officious figures of this “agit – prop” are ex-president of Mexico Vicente Fox and former prime-minister of Spain Jose Maria Aznar, whereas the most distinguished ones are writers Mario Vargas Llosa (Peru) and Carlos Fuentes (Mexico). The list can be continued with the names of less prominent figures of former presidents, leaders of “non-governmental organisations” and, of course, journalists. All this “team” regularly voices “concern” regarding the situation in Venezuela and “dictatorial ways” of its president.

There is an impression that members of this propaganda termitary do nothing else but go around the world, participate in different symposia, forums and seminars only to call upon the “wold public” and international organisations (UN, OAS, EU and others) to put an end to “communist experiments” of Chavez that “does not keep step” with respectable governments of Chilean, Mexican, Columbian and the like type. Sometimes in their speeches and articles that look more like incantations, such despair for the destiny of the “unfortunate Venezuelan people” bursts out, that one can easily read between the lines the outright appeal to the United States to intervene and to establish law and order! And there is going to be no problems with it: everybody knows that the US SOUTHCOM has already prepared everything necessary to “eliminate” the Bolivarian government and seize the Venezuela oil deposits. It is enough, they say, for Chavez to give out oil right and left!

There is a veteran of propaganda battles Carlos Alberto Montaner, 65, born in La Habana, who stands out in the anti-Chavez “team”. His father was a staunched advocate of dictator Batista and was involved in crimes of the regime. Montaner presents himself as a liberal, advocate of peaceful transition of Cuba to the “democratic way of government”. He is ready, if circumstances permit, to claim the presidential post in the Island “in the period after Castro”, which, to his great regret, is not coming.

Montaner studiously dissociates himself from statements that he, since 17 has been cooperating with American special services – first in Cuba in the subversive Movement to Recuperate /Movimiento de Recuperacion Revolucionaria (MRR)/ (the old regime, one should understand), and later in Puerto Rico and Spain. According to Cuban sources Montaner formalized his relations with the CIA when he studied at the University of Miami, whereas the professional orientation was acquired by him at the courses of propagandists in Fort Benning (Georgia). Montaner has not experienced any problems with employment even in his youth: the invisible support of the “company” facilitated his journalist career, provided open and undercover fees, publication of books, exposing the “bloody regime” of F. Castro. Montaner was a typical mercenary of the “cold war” and preserved that mentality till present days, except perhaps, has become more cynical.

If in the previous decades the “struggle against Castro” was well paid, today the propagandists from the termitary got new objects – Venezuelan Hugo Chavez, Bolivian Evo Morales, Ecuadorian Rafael Correa, Argentinian married couple Kirchner. The CIA allocates substantial amounts of money out of their secret funds for made-to-order blacking of these progressive leaders of Latin America.

At the beginning of his career Montaner used to get 50 – 200 dollars in envelopes from FBI and CIA agents. He has no aversion to one-time “fees” even now. For weekly 20 minutes long address on Radio Marti, which broadcasts to Cuba under the CIA control, Montaner additionally gets 100 dollars. For him, who made his fortune of millions at the fronts of building up of globalized world under the control of empire, this “fee” is negligibly small. But according to Montaner himself, he does not claim for more, as he “makes his contribution in the cause of breaking the information blockade, from which citizens of Cuba suffer”. So there is a strong desire to say, do not be penny wise, dear senor Montaner, do not take money for fulfilling so sacred a mission! Only in this way you can give an example of unselfish service to the interests of the native land!

In his propaganda articles, similarly to his other fellow-termites, Montaner permanently uses (artificially interpreting, of course) theses, prepared in the US laboratories of information warfare. All hatred of the empire to independent leaders of Latin America has been concentrated in these stereotypes of “public opinion”. Today the main strike is aimed at president Chavez. Analytic documents of the US official establishments constantly underline that without Chavez the “populist processes” on the continent will “die down by themselves”, the flow of petrodollars for support of friendly to Chavez regimes will stop, and they will capitulate, fall down under the pressure of “coloured revolutions”.

Montaner and those of his ilk extremely easily put tags of “neo-fascists” on new wave politicians. Such strong expressions in the genre of “black propaganda” are the favourite method of American specialists of waging information warfare. Montaner does not spare epithets, when he speaks about Chavez: “crazy”, “narcissist”, “a monkey from the Borneo island”, “caudillo”, “aggressive psychopath”, etc., etc. Here is a citation from the article of Montaner “Anthropology of Chavez” (newspaper “2001”, 18.11.07), in which he gives the following “portrait” of the Venezuelan president: “This is a very aggressive creature that intimidates both his own people and aliens and gets an upper hand by means of howling, beating his breast and permanent demonstration of fangs”. (And somebody still dare to say that “freedom of speech is suppressed in Venezuela”?)

It is clear, that people, having different political views, are not after the heart of “democrat” Montaner. Chavez considers something different as perspective one – the world pattern, which is different from the capitalist one. He does everything in his strength and within the framework of the Constitution to prove that he is right. But at this road he has to overcome thousands of obstacles, created by subversive actions of the empire and its paid mercenaries. But for Montaner Chavez is just an “obstinate gorilla”, “unable to comprehend good advice” of Aznar, Condoleezza Rice, Spanish king and his own).

Annoyance and hatred of Montaner towards “neo-populists and neo-fascists” is growing with every new article by such a pace that involuntarily you start thinking that, God forbid, should these populist get in the hands of Montaner and such like him, Pinochet reprisals of dissidents will seem childish prattle.

Quite recently, in the restaurant “Memphis” located is in the Trade center “Tamanaco” in Caracas, I unintentionally heard an excited, heated by cocktails, talk of two young women and young men – all Americans – about efficiency of anti-Chavez propaganda that is spread in Venezuela. Some familiar names of authors in this field of activity were mentioned. Montaner was among them. One of the American girls spoke about him with approval: “He can arouse hatred. The Venezuelans have to constantly think, who they should hate. Beach life and whiskey give too much relaxation”... And the whole company laughed all at once.
