Malvinas Islands will become Argentina's again
April 4, 2005
Foreign minister of Argentina Rafael Bielsa stressed, that in order to regain the archipelago under the shadow of the national flag, “the immense patience” will be required, as the British government “resorts to unilateral steps for strengthening of its presence in the jurisdiction of the Malvinas”.
In these days in Argentina they often recollect the unfriendly role of the United States in tragic episodes, connected with the events of April 2 – June 14, 1982, when the Argentine troops were surrounded by the British and defeated on the Islands. Evident American support of its NATO ally in many respects predetermined the defeat and surrender of the Argentineans. The monument in Buenos Aires to those perished at the Malvinas Islands soldiers is a sacred place for all citizens of Argentina. And therefore, the left-centrist government of Nestor Kirchner, keeping in mind the treacherous stab in the back by Washington in those remote days of battle for the Malvinas, will unlikely participate in joint with Americans actions of dubious nature. Especially those, which are directed to “isolation” of another left-centrist regime, headed by Hugo Chavez, who is “blamed” for searching of socio-political and economic “recipes” for modernization of the country, fighting the poverty, unemployment, illiteracy. Chavez refuses to become a puppet in imperial claws and it annoys “Washington hawks” more than usual.
Solidarity of Argentina with Venezuela is apparent. It is due to this, that the President Kirchner did not receive the US minister of defense D. Rumsfeld during his blitz visit to Argentina. However, active indoctrination of the Argentine authorities for “yielding the grounds” is going on. On March, 29, J. Bush addressed Kirchner by telephone with the “request” to assist in “maintaining the stability in the region”. That was the same subject of discussions at the meeting of R. Bielsa and C. Rice.
The “axle” - Venezuela – Brazil – Argentina, intensified solidarity of these countries bothers Washington very much, which dreams of returning the times of neoliberal C. Menem, who automatically emulated the USA in all respects.
Assuming the presidential office, N. Kirchner promised, that he would not “automatically emulate”. So far he keeps his word given to the people of Argentina.
