Virgen de los Dolores church in Tegucigalpa was under construction for almost 80 years (1732-1815). Its refined decoration — outside and inside — in baroque arouses admiration of those who know architecture and those who are not experts in this matter. Mexican architects are known to have helped to build the church. Legends say that some subways with hidden gold and precious stones lead from this church to San Miguel Cathedral on the Morazan square, and to a number of other churches and monasteries. The treasures were hidden by Spanish priests, who did not trust to local residents.
Los Dolores square — is a proper place for rest and pious reflections.
If you wish, you can wander along the nearby streets to feel the unhurried pace of life of the Honduran capital.
