The 12th forum of the Latin America left parties

July 6, 2005
Parties of left trend in Latin America nowadays can hardly be called “political outcasts”. On the contrary, these are the participants of democratic process in the region enjoying equal rights. They have proved “in practice” that are able to come to power in their countries through elections despite counteractions of traditional “ill-wishers” - oligarchs, capitalists that are guided by neo-liberal “values”, big land-owners, inactive groups of population, especially from the bourgeoisied middle class.

Representatives of about 120 left parties practically from all Latin American countries convened in San Paulo (Brazil), and one must admit, that the feeling of historic optimism was present in majority of speeches of the 4-day convention. Specially, the success of left parties in such countries like Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay was marked, where “the lefties” earlier were pushed aside by the reacting forces to the outskirts of home political life.

Certain speakers pointed out, that strengthening of left-progressive forces in Latin America – is the consequence of the correct analysis of historical situation, failure of neo-liberal recipes of development of the society (“market – is a panacea!”).

It was also indicated that emergence of left trend regimes in the region was the reaction for more unceremonious policy of the empire, aggressiveness that caused more and more concern of Latin Americans.

President of Brazil Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva addressed the forum and pointed to undoubted contribution of left forces in Latin America into strengthening of democracy in the region, inevitability of this process.

The forum participants discussed the situation in Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua and expressed their opinion on necessity to look for democratic way out of the political crisis in those countries.

It was also decided to depute a delegation of left parties leaders to Colombia to present the project for peaceful settlement of confrontation of Alvaro Uribe government and guerillas.

The forum in San Paulo has become, to a great extent, the expression of solidarity with revolutionary-reformist processes in Venezuela, Brazil and other countries. Their goal – is Latin American integration in the spirit of social justice, development of state programs for support of “humble and aggrieved”, creation of equal opportunities for all members of the society.

Totalitarian nature of thinking of modern apologists of neo-liberalism, as viewed by the forum participants, is an “open secret”. The task of all left-progressive parties and not only in Latin America is to overcome neo-liberal dictatorship in finance-economy, information and other spheres.

“San Paulo forum” was founded on July 4, 1990 to discuss the further ways of left movement development after collapse of socialist regimes in Eastern Europe.
