After his meeting with Hugo Chavez at the Miraflores Palace, Argentine soccer legend Diego Armando Maradona came out happy, charmed and, according to his own words, "in love with the Venezuelan president". "I like women, Maradona said, - but after a friendly talk with Chavez, I've fallen in love with him. I thought that I would see a giant, but he turned out to be a Titan. I have a feeling that I have won a game at the world championship. I think, that it is Chavez, who is following in the footsteps of Fidel Castro. If only many other countries had a Chavez - he is an example to follow!"

Maradona appeared in Venezuela on the occasion of the 11th Under-17 South American soccer championship. The privilege to kick off was granted to the Argentine player.

Maradona's sympathies to Che Guevara and Fidel Castro have been known since long. The Heroic guerrilla portrait has been tattooed on the player's forearm, the portrait of Fidel - on his left leg. Nowadays, un-doubtfully, Maradona will find a worthy place to embody the leader of the Bolivarian revolution, to whom he hinted during the talk, that he wouldn't object to an adequate job in Venezuela, in case it was offered to him. By an adequate job Maradona, naturally, meant the coach job with young talents. Maybe it was due to this, the Argentinean paid so many compliments to the national team of Venezuela, called by its fans "vinotinto" , owing to their cherry-coloured jerseys.

In this respect, the Venezuelan paper "El Reporte" published a panic-stricken comment, where the possibility of Maradona's appointment as a coach was rejected due to various considerations, but primarily due to the fact that previous experiments of the Argentinean as a coach have ended in failure. The teams, "led" by him, have lost with total victory-to-loss ratio 4:24! And although, according to President Chavez himself, who is ignorant in soccer (but not in baseball), Maradona was not invited for the job. So, the Argentinean had to be satisfied with a newspaper ballyhoo on the occasion of his arrival to Venezuela and chance to show off in the company of presidents of 4 countries, who came to the summit at the Orinoco river banks.

Maradona looked effective in the company of Chavez, Brazilian Lula, Colombian Uribe and Spaniard Zapatero.
